Lift Every Voice and Sing!

Saint Mark's School elementary students attend chapel twice a week. At each service, we sing at least two hymns, drawing from 3 hymnals. Multiply that times 40 weeks, and even within their first year, students are developing quite a repertoire of music!

Several times each year, we have a hymn fest in chapel; each class picks a hymn and we sing the first verse. So what's popular with our students and teachers? Today's hymn fest selections included "On Eagle's Wings," "Here I Am, Lord," "I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light," "Morning Has Broken," "Wade in the Water," "God Is So Good," "Now the Green Blade Riseth," "Seek Ye First," "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "Amazing Grace," and--fittingly--"Lift Every Voice and Sing." What would you choose?

Thank you Mo. Betsy for sharing what our children are learning. I know I have heard the children comment on how much they particularly love hymn-fest and it's a great way to keep track of what they have done during chapel. Now I have a better understanding of why they seem to know all the songs and sound so angelic every time I do get to attend.
